2023
Software Engineering
Apprenticeship Scheme
Learn about our Apprenticeships.
26 January 2023
We’re excited to announce MONY Group are taking on software developer apprentices in both our Manchester and London offices this year.
Working with Ada National College for Digital Skills, our apprentices will work towards a Foundation Degree in Digital Innovation to the Level 4 Software Developer Standard with an optional 3rd year of study to top up to a full BSc Degree Apprenticeship.
Why are we doing it?
It’s important we’re generating an internal talent pipeline. However - in an industry which is always struggling with a lack of talent – we also believe we need to play our part in investing in entry-level pathways for the next generation and providing alternative routes for those who may not have access to (or may not wish to pursue) the typical academic route of university education.
Because of this, we believe it also gives us more opportunity to build an engineering team that better represents and reflects our customers and users.
Why are we doing it now?
Over the last few years, we’ve invested heavily in our own internal talent. We’re proud to boast we have a high level of internal progression, with around a third of our engineers experiencing career progression in any 12 months.
Because of this, we’re now at a stage where we believe we’re able to support people starting their careers in software engineering.

Assessment Day
If you’re shortlisted, you’ll be invited to our offices for an assessment day, which will include
-
Introductions
-
We’ll start the day by talking a bit about the company and the engineering team as well as introducing the members of our team who will be supporting the candidates on the assessment day.
-
Short icebreaker
-
To help us find out a bit about each other and make everyone comfortable as you’ll be working together on some of the exercises.
-
Group exercise
-
This will help us see how you work as part of a team, we’ll be observing how you communicate, collaborate, come up with ideas, and work together to solve a problem.
-
Technical exercise
-
We’d like to see how you approach a short exercise involving coding. It will be compatible with a variety of languages so doesn’t matter which one candidates have experience in / exposure to. One of our team will pair with the candidate. It’s not purely about how experienced you are at writing code or even about finishing the exercise, but about how you approach solving the problem, ask questions and suggest ideas. Candidates will do this on a laptop provided by us so they don’t need to use their own kit.
-
Individual interview
-
Candidates will undergo a 30 minute individual interview focused around our MoneySuperMarket behaviours of Innovate to Deliver, Grow and Develop, and Create Belonging. We’ll ask you to provide examples of your experience in scenarios, as well as what you might do in a certain situation.
After the assessment day we’ll gather our feedback and interview assessments together in order to make our final decision.
Assessment dates
-
For London, the assessment day will be Tuesday 14th February
-
For Manchester, the assessment day will be Tuesday 14th March

Once you have completed the assessment day, we will provide you with detailed feedback and an outcome decision. Feedback will provided before the end of the week in which you attend the assessment day.
